Paper vs e-tickets

E-ticket (electronic ticket) is a digital record of the reservation in the airlines computers. Electronic Tickets are issued when the purchase of seats on a passenger airline is done through a website or by telephone.

Paper tickets are in paper form that contains the exact flight information in a piece of paper.

Passengers have to present the reservation code to check in with an e-ticket. Having an e-ticket also allows any passenger without luggage to check to completely skip the check-in counters and proceed directly to security.

Paper tickets are still available, airlines frequently charge extra for issuing them. by far the easiest and quickest way was using an e-ticket. In many cases paper tickets are not exchangeable in case of a necessary change of plan. You own the ticket. You own the reservation in E-tickets rather than the ticket.
